Charity and Volunteerism
Although the Klingon Armada International was initially founded to unite like-minded Klingon costumers with a love of Star trek, one of our real-world missions is to bring good to our communities through volunteerism. KAI is always looking for opportunities to help out those in need, to bring awareness to positive causes, and to serve the community on both a local and global scale.
We never charge a fee for any appearances, public or private, though we encourage donations to a charitable organization in the name of the Klingon Armada International. If you do not have a charity of choice, please ask your local KAI members for their favorite cause.
Some of the volunteer activities we've assisted with in the past include:
- Answering phones for PBS pledge drives
- Food, toy and blood drives
- CROP Hunger Walks
- Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl-a-Thons
- Raised funds and goods for children, the elderly, and the homeless
- Food banks, social service and community organizations (e.g. The Greater Chicagoland Food Depository)
- Adopted and cleaned public highways
- Given demonstrations in shopping malls, public libraries, schools, and conventions
- Participated as guests at local sporting events
Our club was featured in such publications as Chicago, TV Guide, National Geographic, and Parade magazines; on television in “Chicago Slices”, “Wild Chicago”, and “Ben Loves Chicago”; and in numerous local newspapers. KAI received the prestigious JC Penney Golden Rule Award in recognition for our work with Big Brothers Big Sisters.
